I've had the great fortune to have many mentors, teachers, and gifted friends who have inspired me and my work. Outside of studying on my own, my first formal teacher here in Washington state was Stephanie Austin. My first Vedic (Jyotish) teacher was Dennis Flaherty. Other significant mentors over the last twenty years include: Demetra George, Gary Christen (founder of Astrolabe Inc.), Robert Hand, Bernadette Brady, Seven Stars, and many others. I've studied various astrologers’ work and a number of different systems, and though I may not agree philosophically with all methods or systems, I am grateful for all I have encountered and learned. Astrology is vast. Let it be so.

Astrologers, historical and modern, whose work I recommend (an abridged list) include: Vettius Valens, Manilius, Ptolemy, Firmicus Maternus, Jean-Baptiste Morin (Morinus), Parashara, Jaimini, William Lilly, Alfred Witte, Reinhold Ebertin, James Herschel Holden, Charles Jayne, Deborah Houlding at Skyscript, Benjamin Dykes, James Kelleher, Kelly Surtees, Larry Arrington, and Austin Coppock. Non-astrologers include: Emmy van Deurzen (and other Existentialist philosophers), Carl Rogers, Thomas Moore, James Hillman, Stephen Levine, Pema Chödrön, Chögyam Trungpa, Anam Thubten, Thích Nhất Hạnh, Epictetus, Heraclitus…
